Abergele packs three kinds of place into a few square miles. The old town around Market Street has stone cottages and terraces. Around it are estates of family houses and a great many bungalows, built from the 1930s onwards and still being added to today. Down at Pensarn the housing runs towards the shore. Inland, the lanes climb quickly to farms, smallholdings and villages where a house may stand in a large plot of its own.
Bungalows give a lot of scope. Many stand on wide plots with room to extend to the side or rear, and some have roof space that is worth looking at for a loft conversion. Opening the kitchen and living space towards the garden as part of the same project can change how the house works day to day.
In the villages the projects tend to be bigger: renovating a farmhouse, converting an outbuilding or building a new home on a plot. These jobs involve more of everything, from groundworks and structure to roofing and joinery, which is where having most trades in one team helps.

Planning and Regulations Around Abergele
Abergele is in Conwy county, so planning applications are decided by Conwy County Borough Council, under Welsh planning rules and Welsh building regulations. Some extensions and loft conversions need a planning application and some do not, depending on the size, the position and the property. Tighter controls can apply in conservation areas, to listed buildings and in open countryside, and some low-lying land near the coast is in an area at risk of flooding, which can affect what is approved.
